Clayton Adams

April 16, 2007
To Whom It May Concern:
We, the undersigned, have collectively put our thoughts and concerns on the matter of Clayton R. Adams. Our comments are as follows:
We have all known Clayton, for as long as we can remember, going to school, church, ad other various outings with him. We believe Clayton did not and could not have done the things he is accused of unless he was in fear for his own life or the thought of someone with him being threatened, as well. What would have happened to his friend that was with him had Clayton not acted in self-defense? We all know Clayton is still trying to move forward in his life, just like he was before this tragic incident. We, as young people in the Treasure Valley, are wondering after this unfortunate incident of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, “what if it was me?” Am I going to get the proper defense to defend me? Is my constitutional right going to be upheld? Is Forensic work for real, only if it is handled properly? Are the police looking for justice or just someone to arrest? We have all talked about this since last year, and frankly, we are losing confidence in the criminal justice system. Clayton is one more person that will have to spend time in prison, because of his lack of resources to get a real attorney that cares enough to do everything possible to show his innocence and not be manipulated by the system.
Ada County prosecutor Greg Bower said before a trial in 2004, that he “understood how much these trials cost the community, but that expense should not deter prosecutors from seeking the appropriate justice.” What about justice for Clayton? Why were expenses sparred and evidence not introduced to help minimize his involvement in the case?
What about the two Boise police officers involved in the shooting death of a forgery suspect? The suspect moved toward them with a knife, the officers had guns pulled, and shot him because they were in fear of their lives. Clayton had three people in his car that he hardly knew and was threatened. He stopped and ordered them out of the car. This is now three to one and you can bet we would have been in fear of our lives and would have acted in the same way as Clayton.
